Topics of the day... are scattered (as has been my mind lately).
When I thought I'd have nothing whatever to say, I tried this blogthing:
| You Should Be a Doctor |
![]() Optimistic and energetic, you are a problem solver who doesn't get discouraged easily. You are also quite compassionate and caring. You make people feel hopeful. You're highly adaptable and capable. You do well with almost any curve ball life throws at you. You do best when you: - Are always learning new subjects - Use your knowledge to solve problems You would also be a good therapist or detective. |
Hmm... It's pretty close, but me? a doctor? really? I found physiology interesting, but pithing the frog about did me in. I don't think I'd be a good detective, but perhaps a therapist. Note that it didn't say "lawyer". (My second choice gave me this:
| You Should Be a Mechanic |
![]() You're rational when things are chaotic, and for you, reason always prevails. And while you are guided by logic, you aren't a slave to it. You're flexible when it counts. You are always open to being wrong. You do best when you: - Work with your hands - Can use tools, machines, or equipment You would also be a good architect or carpenter. |
Again... no lawyer. I but no way would I be a good mechanic. So. Week in review I guess.
Wednesday's wings (ahhh)
The Divine Though Blogless (DTB) Elizabeth has returned, and we had a lovely time knitting on Irtfa'a. We only knit five rows this time.
We're both blaming jet lag, but really, it's because I've got this sudden bizarre need to put beads in this baby, and by row 7 there have to be beads to add.... The beads are on order.
Jet lag also explains the poor picture -- we took one shot and called it good.
Practicing outside our religion.
Here in Shadowland, there are no actual practicing Christians in the house. Sure, DH is a lapsed Catholic, but since I've known him, he has set foot in churches only for weddings and funerals. Nonetheless, the girls and I seem to be participating in Lent this year. We've each given up something .... with the understanding that after forty days, we can resume enjoying it. (DH is not playing. When I asked him what he'd give up, he said "smoking". This would be exciting, except that he's never smoked in his life. Very funny man, my DH.
The women and proto-women in the house, however, are taking a stab at it. C is giving up cookies at lunch (this counts on school days only, when she's not going to be buying cookies). I'm attempting to give up diet coke (in all its forms). That can of caffeine free diet coke that lurks in the fridge is a constant source of torment. (hmm.... by C's rules, I ought to be able to drink it on weekends, right? since she's not giving up school lunch cookies on weekends.... No. no, I shall be strong).
J, on the other hand, has given up her "shawlie". Yep, she still has the shreds of the lovely bell shawl that was knit for her when she was a wee wee babe. She holds it while she reads, or sleeps, or watches TV, or.... anything at all around the house. It's been in my purse since Wednesday.
That got me to thinking about sacrifice...and what it means in various traditions. The one I like best is the concept of cutting away that which you no longer need (but cling to), in order than you can harvest the fruits of your old experience, and can experience new growth. J's sacrifice really fits this. She doesn't really need the shawlie anymore.. I hope to harvest a healthier body (of course I'd prefer new shrinkth to new growth but whatever).
Now... I'm off to work another row or two of Willow. Can't Chrysopolis 'til I redo the chart, can't Irtfa'a til I see the DTBE again.

Your family sounds so much like mine. A lapsed Catholic DH and a pagan mom raising children on the meadow that falls between the 2 worlds. So far, of 4 children, not one went to Christianity. All 4 are pagan and proud of it. My oldest son and even had girlfriends break up with him for "religious reasons". He says one day he will me a nice young pagan girl and bring her home to mom. What a guy!

No lawyer for me either! 2 months away from graduation, that's a little concerning!

Well, I apparently should be an artist, but unless you mean by that "one who works artistically with a vacuum cleaner," it's wrong.
But the notion of sacrifice as a precursor to growth, now that's interesting. Must think more about that.
