I started this scarf in Silky Wool for my Mother in Law. I gave it to her, in the form of two balls of yarn, one of which had some scarf on the needles, with a note that said "When this grows up, it will be a scarf). Since Christmas morning, I've been knitting whenever I could... monogamously (ouch -- my wrists weren't overly happy with that), and made appropriately rapid progress.
The scarf did what all the best knits do -- turned itself into a black hole for the last 4 inches. But I did finally finish it yesterday, and soaked it long, and rolled it in a towel, and blocked it over night....
This morning, I presented this
To my beloved "Wicked-Evil-Stepmother", whom I adore. Less than an hour later, she and my father loaded themselves into their car and drove away. (Yes, they're even crazier than I, for they drive from their home in Vermont to see me in the winter.... I drive to them in the summer, when the worst I can expect from the weather is severe rain -- without ice.)
Here's a close up of the pattern...
And of the back, which I wanted to at least not look like the WRONG side when it was visible
With any luck at all, I'll be able to finish one more thing before the year ends... and if I'm to finish my Mission Possible goals, I'll have swatched one more thing (the Bohus) before the new year dawns.
I'm now back to knitting furiously on the Weekender Stole, which I really want to ship out before December is over. Now that the very welcome guests have departed, it will be easier to do, as I can sit and empty my DVR without guilt, knitting through the back log of NCIS, Monk, Top Gear and Are You Being Served without ignoring my family.
And now, just to prove that this really is a knitting blog....I'll leave you with the latest pictures of the cats.
Gabriel was happy in his nap until I showed up with the flash...
I love the way he nuzzles under the covers....
Zara, on the other hand, likes to keep an eye on us all...

Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your family. Congrats on finishing the scarf before the recipient had to leave. Hope you meet all your goals for the year and set more and better ones for the next! Happy New Year!

Cool kitty pictures and very nice job on the scarf. I would say you achieved your goals. Silky Wool is such nice stuff.
