So...
I've finally swatched one of my yarn options for Evenstar. This swatch is using Yarn Place Graceful.
I'm having doubts on two fronts, but do admit that it looks pretty.
Doubt 1) The pattern calls for 1700 yards. I have THREE skeins of 903 yards each. It seems wrong to "waste" 1000 yards of this goodness, when I might want to knit a huge shawl sometime (like, for example, Ingrid's Bridal Knot Shawl in A Gathering of Lace
Well... maybe not, that one takes 3825 yards of yarn!
Doubt 2)... Evenstar should shimmer. This would make a lovely midnight sky, but it's not a star of itself. (not that I couldn't put star-like beads in).
That swatch, btw, is done 1/2 on 3's and 1/2 on 2's. The difference is subtle, but I think I like it better on 2's. here's a close up ... if you look really closely, you can see the purl row that divides the two.
The other yarn I've got in the right quantity is also dark -- it's yarn I won two seasons ago in Seasons of Lace:
That's a lovely hank of 100% Alpaca from Briar Rose Fibers called Angel Face.
This yarn seems more ... elven ... than the yarn I've swatched with... but again, I've got 2500 unbroken yards, and kind of want to save it for a 2500 yard project.
On the other hand, I can't afford the yarns I really want (like, for example, Clear Creek Lavender's Silver Bells silk... or Blue Moon Fiber Arts Silk Thread (or Silk Thread 2) in Lauma ... or maybe Handmaiden's silk lace in saltspray...... Sigh.
Meanwhile, I've been working on Wings of Bambu. I've just gotten a note from the designer that indicates that I may have screwed up. (I'm debating over whether I'm going to fix it, though... I rather like what I've got going, and the difference is pretty subtle).
If I fix it, I'll have to rip out about eight rows.

Sigh. Every one of those is lovely.

The dark blue is lovely, but I'm seeing where you're going with the shimmer. Something with a soft sheen of its own rather than a bead.
