Some of you have been reading long enough to recall my stories about teaching writing classes to upper level undergraduate students. I was always fuming at their complete lack of grammar skills. I continue to be flabbergasted that I had class after class of people, allegedly mere months away from being ready to go forth into the world as professionals, who did not know the difference between and adverb and an adjective, much less how to use them appropriately.
I despaired.
I assigned basic grammar homework.
