I'm not sure I've blathered on yet about my upcoming trip to Scotland.
Pause... yes... SCOTLAND!!
And, are you ready for this one -- the only reason I get to go is because Golf Pro, well, golfs. "How does that work?" you might ask. Well...it goes something like this:
In 2009, the group of guys from the U.K. teamed up with this group of guys from the U.S. to set up a golf tournament between themselves. They called the event(s) Across the Pond. In 2009, the U.S. contingent hosted the U.K. contingent at this glorious golf course in Oregon. I'm sure you've guessed by now that GolfPro was one of the U.S. contingent. Hosting means you pay for most of the stuff that happens.
This year, the U.K. contingent is hosting the U.S. contingent at this glorious golf resort in Scotland. By paying for our share of the U.K. contingent's stuff in 2009, we've, in effect, already paid for a good chunk of the activities that occur this year. Thus, there was no way Golf Pro was gonna stay home. And, there was no way he was leaving the continental U.S. without me..
So.. we pooled together our miles and points and such, and managed to pay for our plane tickets from Portland, Maine (where my folks are) to Scotland without spending money. We pooled together more points and managed to get plane tickets for the whole family to fly to Portland, Maine (where we'd have gone anyway), for less money than it would have taken to drive there and back. Choosing flights etc. almost fried my brain.
Now we have real dates -- so now I'm booking hotels for the extra few days we'll be there before the tournament. (I'm not spending all of my time in Scotland at a golf resort -- I wanna SEE stuff! Time is of the essence, hotel rooms are going fast, and I'm having a really hard time choosing! I've gotten the hotel in Edinburgh booked for two days, but now I have two days to stay .... elsewhere.
I had a plan, but didn't act fast enough, and the rooms at the Black Castle for the nights we need were snapped up. I suppose that's fair; there are only 7 rooms. And now, I'm overwhelmed with choices. A castle stay would be awesome, but... limiting in what we can do while there. And once having widened the circle of where to go for the two days before settling in at the resort with all the golf....
I'm overwhelmed with the choices! I'm so wishing for a person to just.... handle this. So instead, yesterday I looked at Frommer's and Fodor's and am worse off than ever. TMI!!! TMI!!!

There IS a person specializing in planning this stuff. It's you!
...oh wait, that's not what you wanted to hear? Sorry...

Loch Ness. Stirling Castle. Whalebacks (visible from Stirling Castle). Statue of William Wallace. Tour of Glenfiddich or Glenlivet distillery (free samples at end of tour).
No matter how much you spend, remember that food, drink, and lodging are wwaaayyy cheaper in Scotland than in England.
That is all.
