My book review for A Discovery of Witches is finally live over at BlogHer's Book Club.
It starts this way:
A Discovery of Witches, by Deborah Harkness, was a pleasant surprise.
I admit, I was looking forward to a nice read, even though I was leery of the premise: Witch meets Vampire and they can’t resist forbidden love. Trite.
And yet, there’s more to this story than that.
Much more. One just has to forgive a few things in the first chapter to find it...
but if you want to read the whole thing, you'll have to go over there :-)
(but I'll give you a spoiler -- my last sentence is:
I’m eagerly looking forward to the sequel, and hope it comes out soon!

*grumbles* Dang you, that sounds GOOD!
And I just noticed that B&N has a new version of the Nook out; one with the whole screen being a touch screen. Plus the e-ink. I'm so terribly tempted, I can't even say.
I'd highly suggest you take Golf-Pro up to B&N and see what you both think of them.

Yup I read it and was really disappointed. I (hanging my head down) started skipping a page, then a chapter, then read maybe the last chapter. I am so happy I borrowed it from the library. I would have been upset if I had bought the book only to find I found it, well, bad.
Every other line was "her looking into his eyes." (I roll mine) or about him sniffing her. Okay...
It needed a good editor, and a lot of cutting down. The everyday stuff, got boring quick.
I guess I really didn't like it! LOL

Have you read "The Name of the Wind"? Suspect so, you're typically ahead of me on finding good books to read...
