Normally, I'm one of those drivers who likes to keep at least a car length between me and the car ahead of me. Especially on the highway. In fact, when traffic is civilized, I tend to keep several car lengths between me and the car in front of me.
Especially in the morning, when I'm driving the kids to school, before my coffee has fully kicked in.
When the view in front of your car looks like this:
You begin to think about projectiles and their arcs, and suddenly, you want to be close enough that an errant cannon ball will fall BEHIND you, not on top of you.
And you kind of want to be right up on that sucker's tail.
Until you realize that there are multiples....
Luckily, monitoring mobile cannons is not a usual part of my mornings.
