So... a tutorial on putting beads onto stitches when your crochet hook is too small for the yarn (If your crochet hook is small enough for the bead AND large enough for the yarn, you can skip steps 1-3, and start by putting the bead on the crochet hook.):
Start with a stitch in need of a bead:
1. Slip the crochet hook through the stitch, as if to knit, and hook a piece of thread (or much finer yarn):
2. Pull the thread through the stitch:
3. Pull the loop up so that you have equal amounts of thread on either side of the stitch,
4. Slip the bead onto the crochet hook:
5. Hook the threads (both ends)(or, if your hook coordinates with both bead and yarn, slip the hook through the stitch)
6. Pull the threads (or the stitch if your hook is the right size) through the bead
7. Put down the crochet hook, and firmly grasp both ends of the thread.
8. Pull the stitch through the bead.
9. Put the stitch back on the left needle.
Voila! A stitch with bead in place:
If your crochet hook is small enough for the bead AND large enough for the yarn, you can skip steps 1-3, and start by putting the bead on the crochet hook.
