Laminaria is moving right along. I zipped through the second repeat of the star chart.
and now, I've discovered the problem with memorizing charts. Though the star chart has four knit rows in it (and eight total rows), there is really only one knit row, followed by a purl back. Which means I can just merrily knit along. And now... since the rows are wide enough to notice when you're knitting them, and, indeed, wide enough that knitting with kids in the house is likely to mean that you'll be interrupted at some point during a row ... I've lost track of how many rows I've done since I last photographed it.
I've decided to use that annoying gap in the center as a handy way to see and count rows. Ultimately, I'll need 54 rows before changing to the next chart. (That's 6 set up rows, and 6 repeats of the 8 row chart). Thank god for counting skills.
Meanwhile, I'm also working away on Beechwood. Yesterday, before I left the house, I weighed what's left of this ball. I was down to 25 grams, which means I'd knit half the yarn. I'm not sure how close to half-way I was on the cowl ... close enough to make it worrisome. Had I been, oh, four rows further along, I'd have been confident. As it is, I'm nervous. So I'm knitting just as fast as I can so that by tomorrow morning, when the LYS opens again, I can KNOW whether another skein will be needed. I sure hope that I won't be buying a skein for ten yards though.
I like this version much better than the one on size 3.5mm needles.
I'd planned to make big progress today. But then at 4 a.m. I woke with an ugly headache. I fed it ibuprophen, and then .. well... slept til noon! That's valuable knitting hours given over to sleep! Silly me.
If you have to buy an extra skein, use the rest of it for fingerless mitts. They come in mighty handy these days.

Better to have given those hours to sleep then to knit with a headache and catch the mistakes many rows later...
