I feel that customer service in all areas is severely lacking anymore. The feeling I've gotten frequently these days is that I'm not really very important to the companies I have dealt with - so I'm dealing with a different company than them now. This applies to doctors, the guys at the car wash, my local Starbucks (don't even get me started on the employees there!), etc. What companies fail to realize is that any type of contact I have with a company leaves an impression on me and has an impact on whether I do business of any type with that company again - after all there is a ton of competition out there and they all want my business. They should also keep in mind how powerful word-of-mouth is. The guys talking "at the water-cooler", the moms chatting beside the athletic field, and the kids on facebook are all networking and if we're treated poorly somewhere it's likely a bunch of people are going to hear about it.
